Episode Summary

Brandon Styll welcomes Jen Freeman, owner of Haunted Murfreesboro, a year-round haunted history walking tour of downtown Murfreesboro. Jen shares her journey from touring the world with rock bands like Nine Inch Nails, Soundgarden, and Hall and Oates to returning home to care for her father and eventually launching a paranormal tour business after struggling to find one herself. She walks through the history of the Murfreesboro square, the legendary Mink Slide, the haunted Sugarees Boutique, ties to Al Capone, and her new Haunted Spirits Tour that partners with Milano's, the Velvet Room Speakeasy, and Five on Black for cocktails along the route. Brandon shares his own paranormal experiences at Mere Bulles in Brentwood, including a recent incident where a printer mysteriously printed pages reading I see you moments before the power blew out. The episode wraps with a teaser of Jen visiting Mere Bulles with her spirit box, picking up multiple voices in Martha's Room, and plans for a live haunted dinner event. The episode also opens with a quick preview from Chef Kev D about an upcoming chef pairing dinner at Humble Baron at Uncle Nearest Distillery in March.

00:00You've heard me talk about Robbins Insurance for years, and let me tell you why. Because Matthew Clements is the real deal. Matthew Clements is a partner over at Robbins Insurance. They work with Society Insurance. And if you work with an insurance company that isn't Robbins, you probably don't know who your insurance representative is. But if you work with Robbins, you will know Matthew because he will come eat in your restaurant. He will know you by first name and he'll know everything about your restaurant. So when you are in that unfortunate circumstance where you need an insurance agent who knows you, it's really important that you have somebody who's local who works with restaurants, and that is Matthew's specialty. I've been working with NARA now. I've got eight restaurants already signed up, and one of the restaurants hasn't used Matthew Clements. Every other person, as I sit down and talk to them and I say, who's your insurance carrier? They go, oh, we use Society and Robbins Insurance with Matthew Clements, proudly. And I go, wow, okay. One person that didn't say that, we use some other company, and I go, are you interested in using it?

01:01She says, yes, I definitely would love a better insurance company. And they're already starting that process right now. So if you do not know your insurance agency, and you don't know your person, and you're not getting that level of service, you need to call Matthew Clements today. It's super easy. His number is 863-409-9372. I'll say it again because I know you didn't hit pause. So get a pen and a paper. Let's write this down, 863, pause again, 409-9372, or you can send an email at mclements, m-c-l-e-m-e-n-t-s at robbinsins.com. Call him today. Welcome to Nashville Restaurant Radio, the tastiest hour of talk in Music City. Now, here's your host, Brandon Styll. Hello, Music City.

02:07Welcome to Nashville Restaurant Radio. My name is Brandon Styll, and I am your host. We are super excited today to welcome in Jen Freeman. She is the owner and guide for Haunted Murfreesboro. Yes, I know it is not October. It is not the time for Halloween or scary spirits and stuff, but you know, we did this really fun post on Instagram, and she replied and said, hey, I'd love to come on the show. And I said, I would love to have you, especially since I just had an interesting experience over at one of my restaurants. So I'm going to fast forward a little bit that Jen came out after the interview to the restaurant and she brought her, she brought her a spirit box with her and some of these other things. And we did some testing. And if you stay tuned after the show, I'm going to tell you what happened. Let me tell you, when I got in the car, I called my wife and I said, holy cow, I don't know what just happened to me, but it was really interesting.

03:07And you would want to stay tuned for this one. I want to tell you also that we are, we are rocking and rolling with the Nashville Area Restaurant Alliance. We have 15 restaurants right now that are signed up and we are working actively on helping them save money and work with great vendors. And I'm really excited. One of those people, one of those restaurants is the Germantown Cafe. We're also working with the Park Cafe and they have opened a brand new location. It's right in the middle of Brentwood, right in the Brentwood. I think it's called the Brentwood Town Shopping Square or whatever, but it's right behind like the Chick-fil-A and it is called Carrington Row. And let me tell you, it's delicious. I highly recommend you go check it out. The same French onion soup you're going to get at Germantown Cafe or Park Cafe. Very similar menu and it is delicious and very cool atmosphere. Sean and Jeffrey and their team over there are doing a fantastic job. It's fun because as members of the Alliance, I get to promote them on the show and talk about how awesome they are.

04:14And we're really excited to be working with them and they're just great guys and they operate really, really well. Another locally-owned and operated restaurant coming to Brentwood. As being the Director of Operations for Mayor Bowl, they technically would be a competitor, but I'm excited to have another local restaurant in Brentwood. I think it's awesome and excited to have them there. So thank you, Sean and Jeffrey and everybody over at UP Hospitality. It's been a pleasure working with you. So right now in the intro portion of this, a good friend, Kevin Deshane, Chef Kev D reached out to me and he's going to be coming to town to do an event in March and we recorded like a quick five-minute preview of this. If you want a really fun chef-driven event that you want to come to and enjoy, then stay tuned right here right now because we're going to jump in with Kevin Deshane for like five minutes and then we'll get into Jen Freeman. So take it away. Okay. Super excited today. We have a special guest to start this show off.

05:14We have Chef Kev D in the house. What's up, Chef? How are you? Good to be back. Happy New Year. You as well. And where do you, are you a New Year's resolution guy? Do you have like, do you start the year off and you're like, I'm going to do it because we've already passed Quitters Day. Right. I like to start a little before New Year's. Like if it's to get in shape or the training situation, I like to start it before the holidays so I can kind of get through that. But you know, you always want to start the New Year off right. So if you've got a couple things and it gives you goals, I'm all for it. I love it. I mean, I'm not, I'm not opposed to it. I just don't know if you had any special, special things that you personally are doing this year. No, no, no, just I got a big birthday coming up. So trying to stay in shape, trying to stay busy, all the normal things, just going into sixth gear. You finally turned in 40? Something like that. I love it. Well, I'm excited to have you back. You were doing kind of a teaser today because you are coming back to Nashville for a special event.

06:19Tell us all about it. Yeah. So it's actually about 40 minutes south of Nashville. It's at the Humble Baron, which is a part of Uncle Nearest Distillery, which they have a beautiful campus there with a distillery and restaurant and barbecue spot and a whole setup there. It's their big second year anniversary, March 21st, 22nd, 23rd. On the Friday night, which is March 21st, we have a big chef's pairing dinner, which we did something similar at Toast Nashville last year with Robert Irvine and Manit and Morocco and myself and a bunch of great chefs. This time at Humble Baron, it's myself, Adam Richman, Chef Bruce Kalman, all the way from Soul Belly in Vegas, the Humble Baron executive chef, Chef Jay is going to be there and we're going to announce some more as we go. And then also as part of this big second anniversary, there's going to be some A-list music going on as well, because if anybody who's familiar with Humble Baron, they've had Post Malone and Eddie Vedder and all kinds of amazing acts play there because the owner is a former executive at Sony.

07:32Those are A-list people, yes. So he's got some great connections and from what I hear, people are coming from all around to be part of this anniversary weekend. Wow. That sounds absolutely amazing and it's not that far from Nashville. And if you haven't been down there to check it out, it's definitely worth just being part of that space. Yeah. And along with the events that are going on, there's going to be tastings and things that they normally do and tours of distillery and barbecue and cocktails from around the world and all kinds of things going on that weekend. It's a big kind of like festival feel weekend. So I'll be there as part of the dinner and then you'll probably see me at one of the concerts or maybe touring the distillery. Who knows? Tasting, touring, doing kind of the whole thing, huh? Yeah. Well, I can't go all the way down there and not taste anything. It's a thing. You know, it's part of the part of the reason for going, not to mention these amazing chefs and amazing music.

08:35So that sounds absolutely amazing. It's March 21st, 22nd and 23rd, you said that Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Yep. And the release tickets are going to be on HumbleBaron.com. I've had the pleasure of working with Adam Richman at different events all over the country in Greenwich and in New York City and down in South Beach. He's just an amazing guy. He's going to be hosting the dinner and he's also going to be doing one of the dishes for one of the courses. So you get to talk to him. He's got like eight books, four shows, all the things happening all at once. He's an amazing guy. Great personality, great food mind. And then Chef Bruce, who's from Barbecue Brawl and he's a Top Chef alum, Top Chef All Stars. He's got a couple of restaurants in Vegas, Soul Belly Barbecue and a couple of other ones happening. He's just an amazing guy as well and chef and then Chef Jay, who is at Toast Nashville, who's kind of the host chef for the whole weekend shindig. He's going to be doing some fun stuff and then we're probably going to bring in one or two others between now and then.

09:39What do you get most excited about when you have something like this coming up in March? I know you do these type of events somewhat regularly, but like what do you get it? You're coming down to Nashville, 40 minutes south of Nashville. What do you anticipate? What do you love the most about doing these events? My favorite part of this is working with the other chefs because we see each other. I might not see you for six months and then we roll in and there's an event going on and we get to talk about what's going on, what everybody's doing, new food trends, plating styles and all these things that are happening. So now that I'm not in a restaurant anymore after doing that for 25 years, that camaraderie of the chefs and seeing each other at different events. That's my favorite part. Seeing Chef Bruce come out from Vegas and Adam from New York City, you know, we don't work side by side in a restaurant, but we do get to see each other at different events. So that's probably the best part. And then the fans, the guests, you know, going out there and talking about the food and answering questions and taking pictures. I touch all the tables. I talk to everybody I can because that's what it's about.

10:39I mean, this is a, it's about, it's a people business, a people event and the people that come out to see us, I'm just as excited to see them as they are to see myself or Adam or anybody else. I love that. What do you have going on until then? And so we're about two months away. What do you have going on? Any other big events that you're going to be traveling to, fun things you're doing until March 21st? For sure. I'm going to be at South Beach Food and Wine in February, and that's about a month before that. And then Charleston Wine and Food is the beginning of March, which is a really fun one. I love Charleston. I have a little event space that I've partnered with, like a 40-person event space, speakeasy style that I do pairing dinners and different events and bachelorette parties or whatever. It's a perfect little event space. So I've been in Charleston a couple of times a month for the last six months. So down then, you know, March 8th, I'll be doing a couple of events for Charleston Wine and Food. That is my birthday. Yeah. There you go. And then, and then parlaying right into the Hummel Baron event.

11:42So February into March is always pretty busy for me. I absolutely love it. Well, I tell you what, I think this is a really good teaser to let people know exactly what's going on. Get your calendar out right now and post on it. When do tickets actually go on sale for this? I would say within a week. They should be on sale by next week. You know, some of the acts will be booked. Most of the other chefs will be locked in. So they'll be able to start selling tickets probably within a week. Will you come back in February and give us all the specific details and kind of tell us about what we're cooking and all of the stuff that's happening? I would love to. Talk about sponsors and pairings and some of the dishes and some of the music acts and really the details about what a fun weekend this is going to be. I am. I'm so excited about that and I love you coming on. I am excited to hear stories of where you've been and what you've been doing. And I'm very excited for this event over at Humble Baron March 21st, 22nd and 23rd.

12:43You're going to get tickets at HumbleBaron.com when they come on sale. Follow me over at Nashville Restaurant Radio and I will be posting in my stories exactly when those tickets go on sale. We'll do that for you. And if you want to follow Chef Kev D, where are we going to do that at? Instagram is probably my most my biggest presence. So it's at Chef Kev D1 and the website is just Chef Kev D.com. So you can follow him there and keep up to date with where he is. And if you are in Charleston or if you're in South Beach and you want to go visit Chef Kev D before this event, I'm sure he would love to meet you. Tell him you heard about him on Nashville Restaurant Radio. Chef Kev D, happy new year. Be safe in your travels. And we're going to do a full episode here. Come in real soon to learn way more about this event down at Humble Baron. Can't wait. Look forward to it. Thank you so much for joining us today and we will talk to you soon. Thank you. All right. OK. Thank you so much, Chef Kev D for joining us to give us that intro. That sounds to be like an amazing evening there at Humble Baron.

13:46And we will have Crystal back very soon, trying to get all of the situations together with illnesses and work and restaurants and everything is a new studio, which is a lot farther away and all of the things. We will have her back. We're going to do a full episode to explain exactly what NARA is. And I've kind of capped it right now because I have too many restaurants. I think the intro I started with the Matthew Clements ad and I said eight because I recorded that a few days ago and now we've already added seven more. So we're at 15 now and it's growing so fast. And now I'm kind of having to hit a little bit of a pause. But if you're still interested, if you want to get involved, I can put you on the waitlist and we can start working on helping you save money, too. I know that everybody I've met with so far has been really, really excited. And I'll put that list out. The website is going to be NARA, N-A-R-A, NaraNashville.com. And when I get it up and running, it'll have all of our restaurants and all of our vendor partners and everything on it. But this is a slow burn as there's a lot going on and we appreciate you hanging in there.

14:46And I'm really excited about helping you guys succeed. And this is it's been a lot of fun. So let's jump in right now with Jen Freeman. OK, so we are super excited today to welcome in Jen Freeman, and she is the owner of Haunted Murfreesboro. Yes. Welcome to Nashville Restaurant Radio, Jen. Thank you. I'm so excited to be here. I'm excited to have you here because I don't know if we ever had any like paranormal type entertainment, anything. It's just straight restaurants and restaurant adjacent. So, yeah, I recently had a paranormal kind of thing. And I want to talk to you about it because it was kind of crazy. But I also want to learn. All about Haunted Murfreesboro. Oh, my gosh, it's so haunted. So are you a lifelong Murfreesboroan? No. Is that what you call them? Well, I would not call myself that, but I am from Murfreesboro.

15:49That's my hometown. In 97, I moved to San Francisco to go to college. I studied recording industry management while I was in Murfreesboro before I moved to San Francisco. So it was just a natural step for me to move to Los Angeles and tour the world with rock bands. So that's what I did. Who did you tour with? Any Deets? Oh, Nine Inch Nails, Trent Reznor, Best Boss Ever, Soundgarden, Hall & Oates, Bauhaus. What was it like touring with Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden? Those are two of my like favorite bands. Same. Well, one of my favorite experiences was we were playing Red Rocks and it was Soundgarden and Nine Inch Nails on this particular tour together. Soundgarden and Nine Inch Nails were both on Lollapalooza 92, I believe. Yep. With Pearl Jam. Yep. Yep. All that chain. Yeah, that was a good one. When it came to red hot chili peppers. Yep. Oh, man. Yep. Well, my ex was he's John Frashante's tech. But yeah, I was out with the chili peppers just as an ornament for a long time.

16:52But it's a great, great little crew there. But yeah, Nine Inch Nails. So cool. Soundgarden. Yeah. So we were playing Red Rocks. And then I just went and I had all access pass. So I'm sitting in like the first two rows at Red Rocks. And Soundgarden is basically singing to me like there's no one else around me. Stage like you can just from the front, you just walk right on to the. There is a stage, but it's not elevated. They have a little partition where you have to have a certain pass to get there. So yeah, that pass. But so I was just sitting there like being the dumbest dork and just like singing along with them and just like and it was pretty great. But yeah, I never got to see Soundgarden. Oh, really? Never got to see Soundgarden. And it's like one of the things I just like. I said my heart breaks. Rock and roll fantasy boyfriend right there. But I'm with you. Yeah. Eddie Vedder for me, though. Yeah. But I'm a Pearl Jam guy. Yeah. Yeah. Well, they're touring again, right? Yeah. I just saw him. Yeah. In August. Oh, amazing.

17:52In Indiana. Hey, it was awesome. Great show. Yeah. They're coming to Nashville. Two shows, the Bridgestone Arena. Fun. I didn't get tickets. Oh, you might. They're going to fall in your lap. Oh, I like that. Yeah. I'll manifest that. Yeah. If you have an extra for Pearl Jam, I need an angel ticket. Yeah, he's going to go with you. Come on. Yeah. Yeah. Let's do it. Anyhow, anyway, nine inch nails. Trent Reznor, the best boss ever. Every single day, he would say, Jen, I appreciate you so much. Thank you. Just and just a cool guy. I heard that about him as much as like you would see his persona on stage and all of the craziness. He's like just a super chill dude. Cool dude. Love that guy. Would I do anything for that guy? He's amazing. So you're in L.A. You're touring with all these bands. What brought you back? OK, so I'm touring with the bands, right? And any time I have a day off anywhere we are in the world, you know, anywhere. Reykjavik Iceland, one of the coolest tours I've ever done. But I would try to find a haunted history tour no matter where I was.

18:54So, yeah, it's just so interesting. That's something that you've always. Yeah, it's interesting to find out these weirdo facts about where you are. You know, what's the most haunted city in America? I mean, I'm the one of the most haunted places I've ever been to is Sugary's Boutique in Murfreesboro. And I've been to the Paris Catacombs. So, yeah, it's insane how sugary's boutique. On the square. I get so freaked out by this. It's it's crazy how much activity there is in that place. Well, anyway, so I'm doing all these tours, right? I'm trying to find the haunted history tours when I have a day off. And then fortunately, my dad got sick in twenty twenty one. So I came I was living in Los Angeles and I came back to care for him until he passed away and I inherited 11 acres to live on. And so I'm like, oh, I don't have this in Hollywood, California. I guess I'll stay here for a minute. So I alone more. Yeah, I have to. But I thought, well, gosh, I'm going to take a haunted history tour.

19:57My hometown, like I know stuff happened here. I took all the field trips as a kid. And I looked and looked and looked and tried as I might. I could not find a year round haunted history tour. So I made I made on a Murfreesboro. So you made one. I made one. You were like you figured a need. Yeah. And then you said, I'm going to fill that need. It's really my need. But, you know, other people need it too. So, yeah. So how did you know? So if you didn't, did you find on a haunted you said a year round haunted history? Was there like a summer spring haunted history tour that you found? There's a great tour that's by I think it's Stone's River Paranormal or Shadow Chasers. I'm sorry if I get that wrong. I think it might be Shadow Chasers, but they do haunted history tour like three weeks before Halloween. But other than that, there wasn't one. And there's a lot of activity in Murfreesboro. I mean, you know, the Battle of Stone River was one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. The Battle of Murfreesboro happened right on the square where we do our walking tour. It's about an hour and a half.

20:57And so we just I Googled things on and around the square, all the addresses and anything that popped up paranormal. I went and spoke to the people that worked there on the building and found out a lot of stuff. And now people recognize me and they'll come out and be like, do you want to hear what happened to me? I'm like, yeah, yeah, yeah, I did. That's exactly what I want. And I honestly started it out as as a fan of history. And then, you know, paranormal investigation kind of got brought in. And I never had any intention of doing that. But it's so interesting. Do you do that? I am doing it. Yeah. Do you like stay the night in Sugary's boutique and like see what happens? I'm not going to lose sleep over ghosts. I don't have to spend the night there. It's every hour of that place is haunted. It's it's really, really. What what happens? How do you know this? Right, because I don't I have never seen a ghost. I mean, yeah, that's me knocking on wood. I've never actually seen one. I've never felt one. I've never none of that stuff has happened to me.

22:00Now, that doesn't mean I haven't heard stories that I don't like believe. But like, I'm not I don't see on the news like another spirit has killed somebody today. Like, that's just not something that I necessarily believe in. Because there's not many spirits that do that. But, you know, the one that did the bell, which is the bell, which real. The bell, which I don't mess with Ouija boards. I don't mess with the bell, which OK, period. Good deal. Yeah. It's pretty insane. But yeah, I mean, that's just happened in Adams, Tennessee. You know, near Clarksville. I don't know. I've heard of the bell, which I like from Tennessee. I mean, I've lived here for 36 years. But not as a kid, not as like a kid. I mean, I was moved here when I was nine. Oh. So I mean, from fourth grade on, I've been in Tennessee, like right here. You never turn around three times in the dark and looked in the mirror and said, I don't believe in the bell, which no. Is that a thing? Yeah. Don't do it, though. Turn around three times. I mean, yeah, I just hit chills.

23:01What is going on in the bell, which don't do it because she'll come and she'll scratch your face and it'll be a thing. But do go to the Bellwitch Cave in Adams, Tennessee and learn this history. It's fascinating. So you can go there. The Bellwitch isn't there. The Bellwitch is omnipresent just everywhere. Once you do that, the Bellwitch just shows up. Well, I mean, if you're unlucky. It's not a thing to mess with, really. I wouldn't do it, but I would go to the cave. For sure. And learn the history. It's pretty fascinating. How many people out there right now are turning around three times in the dark and saying, I don't believe in the Bellwitch? If you're out there listening to this and you do it and you get scratches on your face, send me pictures. I want to see what I'm not going to do it. I'm not opening that portal that wherever. Yeah, I'm just I'm going to take your word for it. I'm not going to do that. Well, that's the somebody out there do it. I want to know. Yeah, that's the only spirit that I know of that has caused death.

24:03And there was it like a movie that Sissy Spacek did that was was it? I don't remember the name of it, but it's about the Bellwitch. So you can IMDb Sissy Spacek and find this. Have you ever had any paranormal experiences yourself? Tell me something that you've touched. I've been touched. Been touched. Yeah. So sugarees. OK, so this has been this is on the square in Murfreesboro. Yeah. Do you know what the mink slide is in Murfreesboro? The mink slide. Yeah. So it was this open air market. It's on Maple Street. I went to MTSU. Oh, you did. I lived right off of Church Street for a long time. I mean, I lived. I could walk to the square from where I live in this old house. You never had any experiences. No, nothing. Really? No. I lived in like a really old house, like two minutes from the square. Oh, OK. Well, sugarees has been a lot of things like it was, you know. Oh, gosh, I don't. I know in the 1921, they built this building that was a scrap metal building.

25:07And then from that building on up to where level three is, it was just an open air market. You could buy all kinds of things there. You could get, you know, produce or shoes or weapons or, you know, prohibition alcohol. You could find yourself a gambling situation there. But the most desired item was the mink pelt. So trappers would bring the mink pelts in to sell at this open air market. Excuse me. And along the way, they would that minks have this oil on their fur so they don't get wet, right? So the trappers would bring the pelts in and they would drip that oil along the way. Well, this particular part of the sidewalk is just a little slant down that used to lead to an area called the bottoms. Well, when it got wet, that oil would get really slippery and you would kind of, you know, slide on that downward grade on that sidewalk. So that's known as the mink slide.

26:09So there was, you know, lots of crazy things that happened there. Like I said, you could get all kinds of illegal stuff there. You could, you know, get a haircut. I mean, it was a community, right? So they started building buildings there. The first building that Sugar Rees was, and I'm sorry, I don't know the proper date of that. It was a grocery store. It was a shoe store for a while. It was a bookstore for almost 40 years run by a woman named Rose. And then Stacey, that owned Sugar Rees, bought that building from Rose about 20 years ago now. Well, when Stacey moved in, she said, gosh, this something's off about this building. And so a psychic person came in and she said, yeah, you've got a ghost here. So like a clairvoyant. Yeah. So maybe we can speak to the other side. Yeah. So on the tour, I share this clip of the spirit answering Stacey back. And it's an audio clip. Yeah. So since then, you know, Stacey and I have become friends.

27:09She's lovely. But we started doing paranormal investigations there because, I mean, a lot of other people have to, she has all these certifications in there of paranormal activity. So people bring different instruments in there, like an EMF reader, which is the electromagnetic field device. There's a thing called a spirit box, which is basically like an AMFM frequency that I guess it makes it easier for the spirits to communicate because they can just jump on that airwave and communicate with you. There's this thing called a REM pod. It's kind of like a theremin. So if you, it's kind of got a bubble around it, if you will. And if something breaks through that bubble, it lights up and makes beepy sounds. And the lights mean different things. Gosh. So all of these things have happened there. You did this stuff. So these are, this is equipment that people bring in. Sure. So there were these two girls that I met, they're called para ghouls. Get it?

28:09Two girls, para ghouls. So they said, we're going to do an investigation there. That's clever. They brought this guy, Mike, from charm city paranormal from Baltimore. And Mike's very sensitive and clairvoyant. So he walked in there and he was like, I feel like I'm going to cry. Like there's so much activity here. He said, I feel like people are just lining up to talk to me. Very, very, very, very haunted place. Not bad, not in a bad way. Like the spirits are kind. They watch after Stacey. There's a guy that walks Stacey to the back door every day. Um, she can feel their presence. I can feel their presence. She'll come in and stuff will be all over the floor, especially like during the George Floyd protest, she, um, had to ward her windows up there. And, uh, she came in and she hadn't really told the spirits what was going on. So she walked in and she said, it was just mayhem in there. There was stuff everywhere, stuff all over the floor. Stuff was broken. And she said, oh gosh, I'm so sorry. I forgot to tell you guys, but you know, there's this pandemic and there's a protest and I had to, you know, board her friends.

29:16Yeah. Well, you communicate with coworkers. Like you let them know what's going on roommates. Yeah. I see. I'm glad. I'm glad that, so they can understand like audible human voices when you speak. I assume so because they answer. They do. Yeah. In one way or another. So I. I'm a director of operations. We have three restaurants and one of them is called mayor bowl. Yeah. I used to work there in Brentwood. No, when it was on second on second. Okay. So we moved it into, I didn't move it, but in 2001, September the 11th, 2001 was the day that it moved, by the way, I'm gonna talk about a random day to move a restaurant. So they moved it to the 12th, but I know, I know it's 2001 because of that. So in this house was a built in 1942 by the ward family and he Truman and Mary ward, and they had, he owned W LAC, I believe was the radio station that he owned. And so this is the, the, the Maryland manner. It was a horse farm and they raised horses. It was a whole thing. And in this house, 7,500 square foot home, they had frequent guests.

30:20Elvis had been in the building. Jerry Lee Lewis, all these people have been in that house. It's been really cool, but there's said to be a spirit there. And her name is Martha. Martha was a frequent guest of the building and older woman. And some say that she never left. This is the, the stories that I've heard. And I've had guests walking up the stairs, big spiral staircase, kind of goes beautiful grand staircase that goes up to the front and we've taken a party upstairs and the last person that walked up shows up that like, why does it go? It's going, who's Martha? And you're like, what? Like I was walking up the stairs and I heard the name Martha whispered in my ear and then I felt a cold burst and there was nobody else. There's no, I'm the last person. There's nobody behind me. And there's no, like nobody else around. You hear something like that. And you're like, what? And then I've had one of my line cooks, Hugo came in one morning, opened the door and saw a woman standing at the bottom of the stairs in the kitchen to go up, just like a woman standing there. And he was like, it was nobody.

31:20He turned like the alarm went on and he like turned the alarm off, looked over those women standing there. He goes, nope, turned right back around, walked out and waited for other people to get there. And then when he walked in, there's, there's nobody in the building. I think there's nobody there. We got to do an investigation there. My friend. So the other day, this is the story. I'm well known that Martha is in the building, right? This is a, everybody, it's kind of a joke. We have a room upstairs. That is Martha's room, the room that she frequently stated. We call it Martha's room. You can reserve Martha's room for your bridal shower. I mean, like it's a event room, smaller room, but it's a, it's a room. And so she said to be there. So every morning, if I'm there by myself, I walk into that room. And I say, good morning, Martha. Perfect. I'm glad you're here. That's welcome. Give me a high five. My hand up, like, let me know. Give me a high five. Like, let me know you're here. I'm always very kind to her. And I'm like, it's great to have you here. We're happy to have you here. It's fine. And I just do that. Not that I even believe that she's there, but if she is there, I want her to know.

32:24I mean, no harm. And I'm okay. If she's there, whatever that's, I just want to tell her I'm friendly. Yeah. I'm not here to like ruffle any feathers, right? But if you're here, I want to see you. I want to meet you. Let's go. So the other day, uh, I'm going to the gym and I get a, I text somebody. I said, Hey, we have this event. Would you like to go with the opening manager? So she was like, I can't deal with that right now. There was a loud pop and all the electricity's out. And I was like, Oh, well, it's an old house and shit happens. I'm like, it's just one of those things. And so, uh, I made, I made a phone call. We, it was just a breaker. We got it fixed. Not a big deal. But then the next night at that event, I was talking to this person and I said, so whatever happened with the, uh, what happened? I was pretty scary. She goes, you have no idea. And I said, what do you mean? I have no idea. And she goes, well, first of all, I'm sitting in the office counting money. It's nine o'clock in the morning. It's quiet is what it is. And the printer starts going off.

33:26I got the printer starts yet. Not, not the main printer. Megan's printer in the corner. That's only like, it's not like a connected to a bunch of different people. She's the only one in the building. Her printer starts going off and these papers steep. Keep printing. What was it printing? Three letters. What was printing three letters every time. Oh, like letters that you wrote before? No, just like each piece of paper had three letters on them. I see you. No way. And then the power popped. What? I got chills. She's sitting there in the office by herself. The printer starts going off three letters. I see you. That's the only thing on the piece of paper and then the power just like and she's in the room by herself. Well, and I was like, holy shit, are you kidding me? I would have been running down the stairs crying. She's like, I mean, what do you do?

34:28Well, that's when you say we got a restaurant open, Martha. Like that's but is that not like the creepiest thing? I'm like, what the hell? And so then you're just like, oh, we're going to have haunted murder. I got to tell the story because that was crazy. Nothing else has happened since then. Nothing like there's no weird anything just just. Back to normal life. When was this? Last Tuesday, so I mean, it was what day? It's Wednesday, like, you know, a week ago. Anything about Martha from the like? Were there any dates that were significant with? I don't. OK, I don't know. I know she was also I had a clairvoyant who worked there. She said that she was she was a vegetarian because she couldn't eat meat, because she could feel the pain of how the animal died and all of that. Yeah. And so I asked her, I said, can you as much as oh, yeah, Martha's here. And I said, what's what's her story? So she's an older woman and she's very sad in the mornings and she cries. And then I can hear her crying in the morning. She's in her room. She's in her room. Wow. I hear her crying in a room. And then by the end of the night, she's happy again.

35:29Like she becomes. Fine, like she's not upset anymore, but she's always sad in the morning. Huh? Yeah. So the the spirit that's at Sugar Rees that first got brought up, Stacey, you know, had the girl come in and the girl said, yeah, you've got a spirit here. His name is Jack or Jackson. And she's Stacey said, I'm going to call him Mr. Jackson. It seems appropriate with the times. And she said, you can call him whenever you want, but you need to let him know that he's welcome. She said, leave some sort of offering. Stacey said, like what? She said, like a glass of water or something. And so Stacey left a glass of water in the break room. And that was on a Saturday. She closed on Sunday, came back Monday and it's, you know, a little time had lapsed. So she walks through the back door and feels all this sand underneath her feet. And she's like, what is this? And she kind of forgets about it, you know, like knock, knock, knock. Hey, the delivery is here. And then people come in and start shopping. And she just kind of spaces on it. And then about halfway through the day, she's like, that was that glass that I left for the water, for that spirit.

36:34But it wasn't broken. It was broken. And it was like just pummeled to the ground. It's so fine that it felt like sand under her feet. So she said, well, clearly, Mr. Jackson, you did not like the water. I'm going to leave you a glass of whiskey. And do you want the lid on or off or do you have a preference? And then you can hear Mr. Jackson say, oh, yeah. And any time you bring up whiskey or cards or cigars in the back of that area and her shop. Always get activity. They love the whiskey. They love it. So maybe leave her an offering and let her know that she's welcome, you know. All right. I do that. I'll leave maybe I'll leave her an offering. Maybe I can get her something champagne. Yeah. Well, that's Mother Bubbles, right? I mean, that has nothing to do with the lore of the house. Right. I mean, if she liked horses or something, I don't I don't know. I have no idea. Ask her. All right. I'll ask her. Yeah. Yeah. So, you know, another place that's really haunted is there's a OK.

37:38Super proud of Murfreesboro right now. Got to give a shout out to the culinary experiences that are landing in our lap at the square. I am so, so, so thrilled because my my love of life is food, wine and travel. So, I mean, it's my personal goal to get my you and me both stamped six times a year, like six times a year. It's easy to go to Europe, right? So, yeah, that's that's what I strive to do right now. I'm in the middle of a remodel for the last two years. So that's kind of taken over things, but understandably, which I I smell my dad like I inherited his property, right? So were I going to have a dining room table? He had a hot tub. So our idea of the course, you know, a little different. So, I mean, the house has been stripped down to studs basically. And I will just smell my dad out of nowhere during saw when or Halloween this year.

38:39It was really, really active around the square. And I have a clip of of we were at the Center for the Arts. And my dad used to say my name, he said, Jennifer. And I heard him on this video that another person that was on my tour took of me with the EMF reader, because we had a lot of activity going on in the spirit box I had there. And I heard my dad say my name. I sent it to my mom. I sent it to his sister. And they were all like, that was your dad, for sure. It's really weird. I don't know how to explain it. It's energy, you know, it's I mean, this has taken me a lot further into the paranormal world than I ever imagined going into. But it's so interesting. So let's let's do a little. Let's say I go. So if I wanted to do this tour with you, how many days a week do you do it? Thursday through Saturday, Thursday. So you get a few days, you get a couple of days off every week. Yeah. And so if I was to sign up, I go online, I go to HauntedMurphersboro.com.

39:43Yes. And it's really easy. You can click, hey, I want to go on this tour. And it tells me spots are available and you can just click a button. And it's like, what, 28 bucks, something like that. Yeah. Which is really affordable to do a fun night. OK, today we are talking about C&B Linen Company. Let's do a checklist. Do you love your linen company? Do you feel like your pricing is fair? Do you understand how the replacement costs works? Do you understand where the service fees and gas surcharges, how that plays into it? Go and look at your linen invoice, see how many creative charges they figured out to get you your 11 cent cost per linen. That's not what C&B Linen does. First of all, you're not going to have to sign a contract. You can sign up with them. You do not need a contract. So there's no risk involved. Hey, we want to try a new linen company. You can sign up with C&B Linen right now, and there's no risk involved because you can cancel any time. Number two, there's no ancillary charges.

40:43They're not going to charge you a replacement cost. They're not going to charge you a service fee, and they're not going to charge you a gas fee. They're not going to charge you a clean green fee. We have to clean the linens. They're not going to do that to you. They're only going to charge you for what you order. Now, if you don't want to order and you want to set up a par system, they'll do that for you. This is how many we're going to use a week. Please make sure that I have this much every week. That's an easy peasy thing. But if you want to do your linens like you do your food or, hey, look, I'm going to need two thousand. I'm going to order two thousand or I'm going to order fifteen hundred or ten thousand. You can do that also. So you never pay for a linen twice. They are changing the game in how linens providers work with you. And and they're just amazing people. They hustle. The service is there. That is the thing that you really want to do. So C and B Lennon, find them on Instagram or you can give them a call right now at nine three one seven two two seven six one six or you can email K Carol.

If you want to learn more about Nashville Area Restaurant Alliance to get that special pricing, send me an email. Brandon at New Light Hospitality dot com. Hey, everybody, we are talking about Super Source. Yes, the dish machine and chemical company who is taking Nashville by storm. You know, one of my proudest things as sponsors working with Nashville Restaurant Radio is what has happened with Super Source. This is a small company moving to Nashville in 2020. And Jason Ellis was by himself out there hustling every day. I met him. We started talking about him. No contracts. They make their own chemicals. They're proprietary. They're amazing. He brings a level of service to the dish machine and chemical world that is unparalleled.

42:49Like I said, you have to sign a five year contract. He brings his own dish machine in. He comes in every week. He'll educate your team on how to use the products. And you're going to save a bunch of money because you're not locked into a five year contract where you're automatically paying for every single time you run a rack. This is the best deal in the entire city. And I'm so proud that we get to work together. You should call if you haven't called Jason Ellis yet. And I'll tell you, my favorite thing is when he goes into restaurants and you cold call somebody and they say, Hi, is your general manager here? And they go, Who is this? And you I'm Jason Ellis, Super Source. And they come back and now chefs come out and they go, Oh, my God, you're Jason Ellis. I get to meet you. He really is that kind of guy. And he cares about you. And it's a success story that I wish every single sponsor that I've ever had gets to have. But everybody's not as special as Jason Ellis. And you need to call him seven seven zero three three seven eleven forty three. Again, I'm going to say it again. Seven seven zero three three seven eleven forty three. And find out why a hundred restaurants have gone to Super Source.

43:52And he's tripled his team twice since he started working with us. That's not because of me. That's because of him. It's because of his hard work. He's an amazing guy and it's amazing company. You should check out Super Source Dotcom and Jason Ellis today. Yes, so you have a hundred stores, but if we're going to start do this when you show up, you meet where are we meeting? What walk me through what this experience is like. OK, so you book tickets online. You meet me at Milano's, which is a wonderful Italian restaurant on 114 Eats College. The building was built in 1906 to house the Elks Club, and it became several other businesses along the way. Which one was a funeral parlor? There used to be funeral parlor is on the square like there are haircut in places. Now, I mean, you know, people died a lot more often. But yeah, so there's some leftover friends from that era of the funeral parlor. A little girl.

44:54There's some weird things that happen there as well. So that's where we start the tour. I encourage guests to start with drinks or dinner there. And then we meet and start the tour from there. So you meet them. Hey, everybody. I'm Jen. Yeah. Welcome to Honda Murfreesboro. Yeah. First, we're going to take you off to where do you leave from Milanos? Well, we kind of go back behind Milanos. And then there's this cool little area called Graffiti Alley, which is like behind this law office and behind Church Street Gallery and behind Milanos, which is kind of like this weird little area. So we walk through there and they've got some I know Rhinovirus has some really cool art that they just graffiti back there. They were commissioned. And it's really, really cool and beautiful. It started out as a project as MTSU Arts and Main Street Murfreesboro. And it's kind of just taken off from there. And then we go out that little area and we're across the street from the old Presbyterian Church that was finished in 1881.

45:591881. And then there's another building that houses Simply Pure Suites that was built in 1841. Isn't that nuts? That's that's crazy. Yeah, I know. It's so fascinating. And then we just walk around the square, go up to the Church Street Gallery. We go to Puckett's, which was also a funeral parlor. And then go over to the antebellum courthouse and check that out. Tell some stories. Are the people of Puckett's cool with you coming? Do you go inside the restaurant? No, we don't go inside. Stay outside. Yeah. OK. Yeah. I don't know if you're like walking through at this booth right here. Yeah. It's usually pretty busy and pretty loud in there. So, you know, yeah, I don't go in there. All right. So you go outside Puckett's and then you just you just kind of move around the square. I assume you go to Sugar Ease. Oh, yeah. Yeah. We go to the back of Sugar Ease and then the front and then tell the story about the mink slide and like the bottoms and. I mean, all the all the things, you know, there is.

47:03Don't give it all away. I'm not giving it all away. That's what I'm thinking. Like it's just so active. It's crazy. There was this hanging tree, evidently, that was where the Union soldiers would hang Confederate soldiers. They just tore that down in November because it was diseased. But yeah, we have a photo of a skeleton in the tree that a guest took one. It's just crazy. Like, I can't I can't believe my eyes when they show me this stuff. And this girl came running up to me after the tour. She's like, look at this photo. And you can see a skeleton in this tree, like the hanging tree. Are you going to do you have a photo? Yeah, I want to see it. Yeah, it's pretty nuts. So people that on the tour, they can take video. They can take photos, all stuff. And then from those photos, you find crazy things. Yeah, you don't you have to kind of go back and look through. And especially with the audio stuff, like you don't hear it while it's happening. You have to go back and listen to it. I mean, like this is a photo that a guest shared with me.

48:04They took in the middle of the day at Stones River Battlefield. That's near the slaughter pen. There's just, you know, some spirits hanging out behind some grave sites. Those aren't graves. Those are people. There are graves in front and people in the back. Can you see them? Yeah. Yeah. So let me show you this hanging tree thing. It's so bizarre. I couldn't even believe it. Will you share that picture with me so I can share it? When I share this. So if you're listening to this, go back to the Instagram post that you see about this episode and scroll to the right and you'll be able to see this photo. You can go do that right now. So that's the original photo, but then swipe left and you'll see the the skeleton in the tree. Can you see that kind of in the middle? Yeah. Wow. And then people catch a lot of faces and windows, especially at the courthouse. And then, yeah, it's just I honestly can't believe all the stuff we get.

49:10I hear about like orbs in photos of like orbs somewhere. Is that something? It is, but a lot of times it can be like dust particles and light shining on it. There's a lot of different. Reasons why there would be orbs. Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, I think a lot of times it's like. Light reflecting off of something, you know, like because I'll post stuff and I'll ask people, hey, do you see this? And, you know, people that are psychic or clairvoyant or whatever will respond to it and be like, oh, yeah, I see that. Or I see four spirits in this area. I'm like, I don't see that. I'm not super sensitive. I'm somewhat sensitive, but some people just really have that gift. I don't I don't mind not having because they, you know, spirits reach out to them to communicate for them. I wonder how many of you are listening to this right now going, that's me. I feel that because I don't I'm not I'm I don't know if it's a mindset, because I don't think that I don't ever think about that sort of thing.

50:11So I'm never looking for it. Sure. And some people look for God to speak to them. And when you're looking for stuff like that, you can typically find it. Sure. But it's there's, you know, I've been looking for my phone for 10 minutes while I'm on my phone. I'm sorry, I'm just looking for my phone. Aren't you talking to me like, oh, sometimes the most obvious things right now is we're just not looking to see it out loud. Like if you're looking for something, say, hey, I need to find my Stanley Cup or whatever. And you're like, oh, yeah, I'm holding it. Like sometimes it's my dad's favorite line is if it was a snake, it would have bit you. My friend once said, if you can't find something, look under your ass. True. There it is. Yes. Yeah. So that's a standard tour. Takes about an hour and a half. You're going to take them around. You're going to show them. You're going to tell stories. It's a lot of fun. Go eat something beforehand, have a beverage and then go on the tour. But now you're up in the game. Now I'm up in the game because I've had so many requests. So I'm like, well, gosh, I'm going to, you know, create this thing.

51:12My mind won't stop working. It won't stop. I also have an etiquette school. So it's so random. You're just like an entrepreneur. You just can't stop thinking. I don't know what that's like at all. Yeah. So, you know, the people spoke and I listened. So I reached out to three different restaurants just for time's sake mostly. But Milano's I had a I had a space on the square. And then my landlord found out I had a tarot reader. So they didn't renew my lease. I'm like, for real? OK. Why don't you try to understand this stuff before you just not give me my rental space? But what you had a space on the square and then you had a tarot reader in that space. I have tarot readers, if people request it. So I'll I've got several, you know, and I'm like, hey, can you come and read cards for these people? And yeah, I guess they didn't like that. I'm like, OK. I mean, it wasn't an everyday thing to bring weird energy to the building.

52:12Yeah, they said they didn't like my practices. I'm like, OK, whatever. So anyway, now I'm not even conjuring the bell, which I know, I think I know. I won't do that. I know. I don't want to do that. But anyway, so this lovely guy, Jack, that owns Milanos, he's always up for my wacky ideas. And I'm like, Jack, you know, I lost my lease. Can I start the tour here? Of course, darling, whatever you want, whatever you want. So, you know, I try to go hand in hand with Jack. And I'm like, I send out a text to everybody that books the tour. Hey, we started a tour here. Let me know if you'd like for me to reserve you a table. You know, one hand scratches the other back or whatever. I don't know what that thing is, but I want to help Jack, you know, I want to work with him and make his business. You have a great partnership. That's what they call that. Yeah. So then I thought, well, gosh, well, I definitely want to start at Milanos because they close kind of early, too. So that would be great to get Jack more business. And then they just opened a amazing place in Murfreesboro called the Velvet Room Speakeasy. Oh, nice. So cool.

53:21It's a true speakeasy. So you have to have a password. You get on the phone when you get down to the stairs there and you pick up the phone and they're like, what's the password? And you tell them the password and you get the password. You buy a ticket or you you buy a membership or you can get a daily membership for ten dollars. And it's just exquisite. I mean, the cocktails are phenomenal. The gentleman, Greg, that's doing the mixology menu has just done a fantastic job. And then Daniel and his wife, Crystal, own the Velvet Room Speakeasy. And they've just done such a great job on the decor. It's all Victorian. It's absolutely stunning. I love that. It's great for Murfreesboro to have something like that. It's nothing like that when I was in school. Yeah. Yeah, it's very cool. So in the borough, I've been so excited about those guys opening. And so I thought, well, gosh, you know, I'd love to work with Daniel on this. So I spoke with him and he's been wanting to do an investigation or something in the building there.

54:25So it's just and that really ties into the ties with Al Capone that we have in Murfreesboro. So I know there was Al Capone ties. Oh, yeah. Capone would do business in Murfreesboro business. But he would, you know, it's about halfway between Chicago and Miami, where he did a lot of business in both of those cities, obviously. And he would stop in Murfreesboro, go to Pastimes Barbershop, which was open in 1904. There used to be a Speakeasy on the second floor there. And there was a fire to the building. So it's just one level now. But, you know, it's a it's a barber shop. And in the back of the barbershop or pool hall. So you can, you know, get your haircut and then go play some pool. But Capone would come in there and do just that. Probably, you know, go up to the Speakeasy and then he would walk down the end of the block and go have lunch at the Busy Bee Cafe, which is now Marina's on the square. Yeah. Yeah. So anyway, I was really excited to work with Daniel to do this. So that's our second stop.

55:25So firstly, we stop at Milano's. We start the tour there, talk about the funeral parlor and the happenings that have gone on there. Then we go on to the Velvet Room Speakeasy. And since we're, you know, you're with me on the tour, there's not a cover for that. And then we go on to, you know, do a little more touring. And then we end our tour at Five on Black, this amazing restaurant that Mitchell from Five Senses and Steakhouse Five is one of the partners of Five on Black. And it's kind of got a Vegas theme, but it's the old B. McNeil's building. And so that place is super haunted, too. So we've had experiences there. I was fortunate enough to be able to take the Five on Black team on a tour before Halloween this past year. And we went down to the basement with the EMF reader and we're getting stuff on the spirit box and things. And little did we know what was happening on the first floor. But we were walking up the stairs and Raul, one of the owners, was like, why is that TV on?

56:31I didn't turn that on. And his wife, Bree, said, let's go watch the video. So they've got cameras everywhere around there, like super sophisticated security system for those guys. And so we watched they have a huge TV with like all the feeds on it. So we found that one feed and the power was going on and off. The lights were flashing on and off. And right before we walked up the stairs, the TV came on. It's so it's so bizarre, like it's it's unbelievable, the things that we find and experience. I can't believe it. So I'm starting to believe it. Yeah. Well, we've got to come on the tour. But the tour, the tour ticket, the haunted spirits tours, 58 bucks. But that includes the tour and three predetermined curated cocktails at each location. So then three cocktails. No, no, no. Three cut one at each location. Yeah. Now, what if I what if I'm a fast drinker and I want to have two?

57:33Can I buy a second cocktail or if I want to do a shot or something? Yeah, I guess you could. We're trying to keep it down to like 20 minutes per venue because time's sake, you know, so, you know, you can. But it's not included in the ticket. So then at the end of the the tour, I'll pay one bill for everybody. And that that covers everything. Yeah, that's good, including the tips. I'm an alcoholic, though. Yeah. So I don't drink alcohol because this is the way my brain works. For those of you thinking out there, because I talk about this a lot. When I hear this, this is the way an alcoholics brain here. You can have one drink when you go there and you're there 20 minutes ago. I could have three in that time. So if you're going to buy one, can I buy two more if I want to a shot? And I want because I would drink that and have two more. Sure. Side note for anybody out there is like he's not now. No, that's the way my brain would work. I would go. I would want to have three drinks in that time. If I have nine drinks over the whole tour, then that's a good start to the night. Yeah. Well, we also offer mocktails for those who don't drink. OK, well, that's my next question.

58:33Like, if I'm not a drinker, can I still go on that tour and do non-alcoholic beer or something like that? You can, but you still have to be 21 because of the speakeasy. The other two places are restaurants, so you could be underage and be there. But is there an age limit on the tour, the general tour? No, not really. I mean, sometimes people bring their kids and they're super into it. And sometimes the kids are you can see that they're just completely bored out of their minds. I can read a room. I have one of each. Yeah, both of my kids came. One of them be bored of mine. They don't like, oh, my God, this is amazing. Yeah. And I have the gadgets, you know, so kids can have something to hold and whatnot on the tour. But it's nothing like people are going to jump out and scare you or anything. Like, it's nothing like that. So kids kind of get bored sometimes. But you kind of have to use to imagine you have to kind of get into the whole vibe thing. You have to be into the whole thing. And if you're not into it, then it. Yeah, if you're a kid, yeah, or an adult. Like I had a birthday group that wanted a private tour.

59:35And so we did a private tour and did a paranormal investigation at Sugarese. And there were some guys that, you know, their wives brought them and they could have cared less about the spirits or whatever. And so we didn't have a really great. Feeding feed or reading while we were at Sugarese until those guys went outside and then stuff started happening. So it's like if you have people that aren't into it or don't believe or whatever, they kind of don't reveal themselves as much, I think. Yeah. But once those guys stepped outside, the ladies and I just got a ton of activity. So, yeah, it's pretty crazy. Well, this is so fun. I mean, yeah, this is so fun talking about spirits. And it sounds like a really neat, engaging thing for you to do on a daily basis. And how many you just get to meet so many interesting people. I imagine so interesting. My favorite things about operating restaurants is walking in and just I get to meet so many because it's you don't choose who comes to me. They come and then it's like, here we go.

01:00:35Yeah, it's got to be so interesting. And you hear lots of good ghost stories from guests that come by or feel like you're walking like I was in this house. Do you hear a lot of that? Yeah, like we had these great ladies that came. There were like 16 of them. And they all graduated when Central was a high school in Murfreesboro. And so one of the ladies, we have a great story at Michael Busey State Farm office. And one of the ladies on the tour said, oh, I used to own the Encore Bridal shop that was in this building. And I'm like, did you ever have paranormal experience? And she said, mm hmm. Yeah. And so she told me about some of her experiences. And it I mean, we've also got a photo of a spirit that was at that building that's now Michael Busey State Farm. And there is another building that's about three doors down. And you can see the spirit in the window. And then.

01:01:38And it's just, yeah, he's it's this guy named Uncle Lou, right? So she's going to show me another picture of this. While she's doing that, I will tell you, you should go to haunted Murfreesboro dot com right there. It's it's tour the streets of downtown Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Hear the hidden stories and learn about the ghosts that still haunt these streets. All you have to do is click a button that says get your tickets here and you can book any day that you want. It tells you how many seats or how many spots are available, what time that starts. She just described to you what you're going to do. It sounds like a wonderful thing. That's like a fun first date. Yeah. Like something if you're trying to get to know somebody and kind of something that isn't let's go get drinks or let's go to a club or it's like dinner and a movie, but dinner and let's go walking together and see if you see if you can get into it together. It's a really fun date night idea. And you can go to a club after. I mean, it ends pretty early. So, you know, it's only an hour and a half, but it's a fun way to get to know somebody and kind of walk around.

01:02:42So I like that. I think that's another fun aspect. I get to learn history about where you live, you know, or near where you live. I mean, I know there's a great walking tour and called Franklin walking tours, a girl that runs. That's really cool, too. So check that. I need to do that because I'm new to Franklin. So I need to like learn. She does it every day and night. Like she's totally committed. I'm also trying to do a remodel, so I'm like, I can't do it every day. But yeah, so this was Michael Busey found that. Portrait when he was moving into the building. Weird, right? I guess it looks like Ebenezer Scrooge or something. Definitely a crazy like like you'd see that in Disney's Haunted Mansion somewhere. Yeah. So then this guy was on the tour. And these are the windows that are like three doors down. And you can see something in the left there, right? So zoom into that or scroll over to the next photo, too. Like that. Bearded guy in the window.

01:03:49It's the guy in the portrait. So scroll, go, go left there. Yeah. So there he is again. Yeah, that's eerie. Yeah, it's pretty crazy. So the lady that owned the encore bridal place said that she would had she had these dressing rooms in the back and she would try to open the curtains to let them air out and stuff. And she'd always walk back and the curtains would be closed again. And she's like, who's closing this? And she talked to her staff. Are you guys closing this? I want it to air out. And they're like, we didn't close it. This happened a lot. So she finally was like, I'm going to sit here and see what happens. Like the store was closed. She was sitting in the floor, had the curtain open, was waiting for something to happen. It kind of waited for, you know, 45 minutes or so. So she started playing a game on her phone. She looks up and sees the start. The curtains start to close super slow. I've got chills now. And she's like, what? I'm like, did you get a photo?

01:04:49And she said, I tried to, but it looks like this. Like she was shaken so bad. She couldn't. She was terrified, you know, so she couldn't see anything from her video really. But she said she saw that curtain close. There would be a mess to clean up on that floor. I was sitting there. That's all I have to say. That is not something. There's been a lot of tragedy on that square, you know, like between the cholera outbreak, like a tornado, a deadly tornado fires. I mean, those buildings were all, you know, timber at one time. And so if one caught fire, they just kind of spread down. You know, there's a little thing called the Civil War. Well, there was a tree called the Hanging Tree. Yeah. That's probably enough. Yeah. To be like that. That's a pretty bad thing. That antebellum courthouse, which, you know, just means it was built pre-Civil War. That opened in 1859. Wow. The courthouse is, I mean, it's beautiful. It's gorgeous. Yeah. Right there on the square. There's the cover shot of your website.

01:05:50Yeah. There's a cool museum in there, too. So check that out. Well, it's pretty amazing. Come on down to Murfreesboro. It's not that far. I mean, really, it's 35 minutes from downtown. Not that far. No, no. Tell me anything we forgot, anything we missed here. We do we cover it all? I mean, I've got the chills like 15 times what we've been talking. If you don't take the tour, come to Murfreesboro anyway. The square is like really, really thriving now. They've got so many new restaurants like the Velvet Room Speakeasy is new. Five on Black is new. They have a another speakeasy type restaurant called one of 19 cocktails. There's no sign or anything. You just go find the side door and then go down. It's a beautiful restaurant. It's like a raw bar. Hemisphere's wine bar just opened. So they have wines from around the world. They have like a wine club program. It's it's so cute and quaint.

01:06:51Like, I love the square. It's just really great. Wow. Yeah. One more quick break to hear a word from our sponsors. Before we finish this episode and we talk about my story from Mayor Bull, I am dying to tell you about two different brands that are we're partnering with. One is Calexo. Calexo is a THC beverage. It has got five percent hemp derived THC and they have three amazing flavors. Semitropic, cucumber, citron and citrus rose. They are all delicious. I've got them at my restaurants and people are loving them. I've yet to have one person say this doesn't taste good or this tastes like a skunk. So many have so much sugar and they're just they just the flavors aren't there. Calexo has nailed it. Their proprietary blend is unbelievable. You can get them through Lipman Brothers. If you haven't jumped into the THC beverage game, what are you waiting for?

01:07:54We this five milligram THC is a low dose. It's a micro dose. Anybody sitting at a bar can try it. You can try it in a restaurant. It's a great option for non-alcoholic people. My sister sells them over at Killjoy and they go they go crazy. People just absolutely love Calexo. You get them Lipman Brothers again. Order yours today. I also want to talk about Black Sheep Tequila. We had Ray McBride on the show not long ago and Ray is the CEO. And he was explaining what all the little medals mean on their marketing material. And they're in Yeho's one double gold at San Francisco for three years in a row. That not only means that it was the best that they ranked it the best, but it was unanimous best tequila in the world. And you can get it today for your restaurant. We sell it at Chago's in our Cadillac Margarita and everybody absolutely loves it. If you come in and you're a guest on the show, I have some samples here I'd love to give to you.

01:08:59If you want to come on the show, send me a message at Brandon still at on Instagram or at Nashville underscore restaurant underscore radio. So we would Black Sheep Tequila. It's the best. They're based in Nashville. This is a Nashville base. Now, they are grown in Mexico and they actually own their own fields and the distillery. They're one of a few that actually do that. And like I said, it's based in Nashville. So this is as local of tequila as you're going to get. And it is amazing. Black Sheep Tequila. Thank you so much for coming in. Oh, my gosh. It's been a pleasure. This has been a blast for me. And so interesting. Thanks. I am definitely going to come do it. I hope you like I am going to be my guest. No, I'm not. I'm happy to pay and come down to the thing. I would love to support you. That's not something I would want to do for free. I definitely want to support you in this venture. And it sounds really interesting.

01:09:59And I would love to learn that because, I mean, my 21st birthday, I was right there on the square party. And I mean, I was at college there, went to the borough and then I forget the Jack and Diane's or Jack and something. It was like a two level place. I can't think of the name of that place. My brother ordered me a three wise men and I got sick and Jim Jack and Cuervo in one shot. God, you ever had a three wise men? But I've had concrete mixers and when I worked in Maribou, shout out to Michael Brannon, who's no longer with us. But he would be like, oh, it's hammer time. And we would do mind erasers at the bar. Yeah, I loved working at Maribou. It was such a fun, exciting time. It's a fun, exciting time now. I got to check it out. We have a good time. I'd love to have you come in sometime and just kind of I would love to have you come in and bring all of your gear. Got to. And I'd love to test it. We've had ghost hunters come stay in the house overnight. We did this before my tenure.

01:11:01So it's over seven years ago, but they would come in and they would stay the night in the house and they would test and do all the theories and stuff. And they did this three or four times before we checked the trash can after they left. What was in the trash can? Wine bottles and beer cans and liquor bottles. Did they ever find anything besides the wine closet? I mean, yes. They think we have to come back again and stay in there. Hey, we're bringing more friends now. It's like, oh, OK, we see what's happening here. The thing I don't know. I haven't seen any proof, but I would love to see a spirit box. Yeah, I'd love to see whatever you bring and do an investigation. Be kind of fun. I could do it like it has to be at night time. Does it have to be a certain time? No, not real. I mean, you know, from what I've experienced, no. We do it like seven o'clock in the morning. Probably. Yeah.

01:12:02One thing to be fun to get some staff, if I like, but I say, are any staff members interested in this and do like some kind of like a fun? Yeah. Staff are you closed any day? No, we're open all the time. We're closed Saturday mornings. Oh, OK. We do like bridal showers. But we're we come into Brentwood. So I mean, it closed. It slows down by eight, eight thirty every night. I mean, if it was like nine o'clock at night, I could have a let's have a haunted dinner like beggars banquet style and then do do the investigation after that. We could do it. Oh, we're going to talk about this. New fun ideas. We got new things coming. I like this. This is fun. So if you're interested in that, stay tuned, but go visit haunted Murfreesboro dot com and follow us on Instagram and follow on Instagram at haunted Murfreesboro. Yeah. And also you can check out some of the paranormal investigations. We did not every minute something's happening, but pretty much every three minutes something goes down. So I think the last one we did was in September of 2024.

01:13:03So you can find that on the Instagram feed. I do live feeds when we're doing the investigation. So you can see for yourself the things that happen and go on. We should do a live podcast while we do it. Yes, let's do 100 percent. Are we doing this? I think we should do it. We're doing it. All right. So stay tuned for that at Nashville Radio and haunted Murfreesboro. Jen, thank you so much for joining us today. Have a wonderful rest of your week. I already am. All right. So what do you think? That was was a lot of fun. And now, as promised, I'm going to tell you the rest of the story. She came by on Monday and today is Wednesday. And so I show her the house. We walk around the house, the downstairs, and I take her upstairs. So now this is where, you know, most of the things happen. We walk into the family room and then we walk into Martha's room and we're walking around Martha's room. And I tell her, I said, you know, I always am kind to Martha.

01:14:06And I say these, you know, hey, Martha, good to see you. And so then she then says, Martha, we're excited that you're here. You know, can you let us know that you're here? Kind of a thing. And then she pulls out and nothing happened. Nothing happened. And she pulls out her spirit box. This is this is a AMFM like frequency thing that apparently people can communicate or whatever the situation is. She pulls this thing out and she turns it on. It's kind of like white noise like this. And she says. Is there anybody here? And then all of a sudden in this box, you start hearing voices and it's not like a radio, it's like raw. Hello. Hi. It's a bunch of different voices. She's like, whoa, one at a time. And I'm sitting there like, what the hell is that? Because this is spirits talking. This is there's how many are there?

01:15:07And I could have sworn I heard the word seven. And we're sitting in this room and she keeps talking, asking questions and they kept responding. It was so many. Some of it was inaudible. But when you're standing in the room with her and there's these voices coming through this box and we're like, it was the craziest thing I've ever experienced. I didn't know what it was. It was very calm. I wasn't like scared or anything. It wasn't like I was like, oh, my gosh. But she mean, we're asking questions. Are you OK that we're here? Are you happy that we're here? And it wasn't like, yes. But it was just it was like a like if you would imagine a spirit passing by something and saying something as it walked by, that's what it was. And so we were they're very chatty. And I said, well, let's walk into a different room. We walked into there's a quarters like this closet that goes way back to the side of the house.

01:16:08And I was like, let's go in here. We went in this closet and again, more voices, more things. It was just kind of I'm getting chills telling the story. And so then we walk into the office, which is right next to it. And there's a bunch of people in the office. And I'm like, this is where the printer was printing. This is what it was. This is the person's printer. And we start talking. And the thing went silent. We're like, guys, listen to this. Nothing, not one thing from the rest of the afternoon. We walked in there. We walked in the hallway. We walked around. Not one more voice. It was like her and I in that room. They were really willing to talk. And then we walked in another room. Nothing. So we are planning on a dinner, a dinner at Maribel upstairs. We're going to do a dinner and then we're going to go. And she has multiple different readers and different things. And we're going to do this live with people. And I think I'm going to bring the podcast going. We're going to record this. So stay tuned because I'll be talking about it here.

01:17:12And this be your chance to come on Nashville Restaurant Radio. We'd love to have you at this dinner to meet Martha and Mary and Truman and whoever else is in the building. We heard the name Mary when we said, who is this? We heard the name Mary come out. So we kind of like, oh, so Mary's here too. Like we didn't know this. There's different things. Mary and Truman Ward were the owners of the home originally. And the house was built in 1942. It was a horse farm. No weird things happened on the property. I mean, I don't know in 1942 what was happening. It was middle of a war. But they built the house with the bones from three other houses that they had on the property. It was in the middle of a war. And there was a ration on these things. So the house is really special. If you've never been to Mirable, this will be a fun event. And we're going to do it. So there you go. That's the rest of the story. And I called my wife from my home and I go, remember how I told you that I don't believe in this stuff? I've never seen it. I've never experienced it. I go, I think I'm changing my mind.

01:18:14I think that, but I wasn't scared. It wasn't like a scary thing. I was like, I think that this is, that was really interesting. So if you want to be a part of that, stay tuned to Nashville Restaurant Radio. We, as always, hope that you are being safe. I love you guys. Bye.
